Behind The Pardah

This story is from an all girls Islamic school celebrating India’s 68th Republic Day. The school located in the streets of Seelampur, Delhi has an intermingling of lessons of Islam, lessons of women empowerment and lessons of nationalism for their girls. Black burkhas with green, orange and white dupattas lit up the basement of the little school with patriotism. ‘’Mulk ki mohobbat mein’’ (in love of the nation) as the kids said repetitively, several performances were commenced. In an interaction with the owner of the school, Mr. Ansari, said that these girls have to prove it to the world that intelligence and knowledge lies even under those burkhas. He said that the way the world, especially our nation looks at them and their nationalism has to change.
